Who we are

Mixergy is a spin-out company from the University of Oxford’s Energy and Power Group (EPG). Co-founders Pete Armstrong and Ren Kang first met whilst doing their PhDs together at EPG. Pete’s thesis was on intelligent hot water tanks whilst Ren studied power systems. After winning the Technical Innovation award within an electric car competition (the 2013 Shell Eco-Marathon), Pete and Ren entered a venture competition called Climate KiC and won a 95,000 euro prize which was the genesis of Mixergy in 2014. Since then, the company has received venture finance from IP Groups and Oxford Science Innovation along with angel investment to match grant funding which has been obtained to build our ‘Internet of Tanks’ vision.
